Before I ever put on a kandura, I was in the trenches — executive producing, orchestrating, and launching a sound that would take over the world.

Before the Culture,

There was Sound.

As co-founder of a pioneering label, I helped birth the global rise of Afrobeats. I didn’t just catch the wave. I helped create it.
Before the awards, the politics, the sold-out tours—there were late nights, real strategy, and belief in something no one else saw yet.

That same vision now powers BASMNYC.
From sound to style, from Lagos to Dubai, I’ve always been about culture that moves people.

Origins of my name

Yeah, my name’s long.

So is Arab legacy.
Everyone thinks Arab 'civilization' started with oil—nah.

My namesake was dropping bars centuries before Shakespeare even picked up a pen.
I chose this name to wake people up, ask better questions, and connect over what actually matters.
Different is the point. That’s how you shift the culture.

“I see myself as an Ambassador of Arab culture to the world and wanted a name that really meant something to ME.

I studied Arabic culture, both pre and post Islam and the two people I most identified with were Bilal (bin Rabah) & Antar bin Shadad. The first Emirati family I met were the Mazrouei's and as I am from New York City, my name was formed”
